Read this! Before Buying Used Baby Gear

Babies need all kinds of gear as they grow. Many parents buy used baby products or borrow them from friends in order to save money on the items that will only be used a short period of time.  Are these practices safe?  They can be if you are a smart consumer and are aware of product recalls before you make these purchases or borrow items.

Some of the most popular used baby gear products are cribs, high chairs, strollers, baby carriers, baby swings, play yards and of course car seats.  These items tend to be quite expensive, and purchasing them used allows parents to spread their funds further.  First and foremost, we want your baby to be safe.   Protect your baby by being a smart consumer and following the tips below.

Great pets for children

As parents, we have all heard our children pester for a pet of their own. This can be a big decision and depending on the ages of the children, one that should not be entered into lightly.  Children will say most anything to receive a pet of their own, but what you need to realize is that children, even those with the best intentions, will need your help in caring for the pet of your choice.  So think carefully about how much time and money you have available to care for this pet, before making the decision as well.

The Ins and Outs of Homemade Baby Food

So your baby is growing up and is ready for solids.  Now the decision needs to be made as to whether to purchase pre-made baby food or make your own.  When it comes to making your own baby food, it really is very easy.  Most of what you cook for yourself, your baby can enjoy too.  A few things to have on hand to make this process easy is a blender or food processor, extra ice cube trays, and a can do attitude.

Games, Games and More Games

Christmas seemed to bring more games than other toys this year. I understand why when I look around my house and see the number of toys that my children already have. This year we received a variety of games that my children really have enjoyed. Many of them were from a company called Simply Fun, and I must say, that they are true to their name. My children have had more fun playing Walk the Dogs and Linkity from Simply Fun, and Sorry Sliders from Hasbro.

Child Safety should be High Priority

What is the number one concern most parents have today?  It should be keeping their child safe.  Whether you are at home, in the car or out shopping, you always want your child to be as safe as they can be.  For years companies have been coming out with new products to help keep your child safe, just be aware that not all products are tested the same.  As a responsible parent, always double check the current recalls to make sure that the items you are purchasing are as safe as they can be.  I’d like to introduce you to some of my favorite safety products that are out on the market today.

Teaching kids to handle failure

It is important to teach kids how to handle failure and disappointment. Like every parent I know, I want only the best for my kids. I want them to succeed and to be happy, and I am willing to help them in this- as appropriate, of course. But I’ve also realized over the years, that for my kids to be truly happy and successful adults, they also need to learn how to handle failure. And I’d rather they learn about failure and how to handle it now, when we as parents can help them through it, than when they are older and the consequences are higher.

How bedtime routines help kids’ sleep

What should you do when your child’s sleeping patterns change? I’ve always been something of a stickler about the bedtime routine. The kids have them for a reason, I think, and we remain committed to them. But even with very good consistency, we still go through phases when the same old routine doesn’t quite work as well for various environmental or developmental reasons. What to do in these phases is hard to know. Do we stick with the routine as it has stood? Or do we tweak it? Is there something else going on?
