Games, Games and More Games

Christmas seemed to bring more games than other toys this year. I understand why when I look around my house and see the number of toys that my children already have. This year we received a variety of games that my children really have enjoyed. Many of them were from a company called Simply Fun, and I must say, that they are true to their name. My children have had more fun playing Walk the Dogs and Linkity from Simply Fun, and Sorry Sliders from Hasbro.
Walk the Dogs is a strategy game that is easy enough for my 6 year old to enjoy, but still thought provoking enough for my 12 year old niece to like as well. You are trying to gather 5 dogs of one breed in your dog line up, but this is not as easy as it sounds. The dog catcher can sneak in and take your breeds from under your nose. A quick game to play, taking no more than 30 minutes of your time, provides plenty of fun for the whole family.
Linkity is my favorite of the new games. This game is geared more for an older crowd, but we have adapted it some to allow my 6 year old to join in and have fun too. This game is based on word associations, and trying to be the first to be rid of all the cards in your hand. A quick fun game for the family to enjoy, it only takes about 15 minutes to complete one round. Lots of fun and laughter as each person tries to empty their hands.

I have to admit that I have always been a huge Sorry fan, but realize that it can be a long game for young children; they lose focus about half way through. So, as I watched the commercials for the new Sorry Sliders game I wondered if it would be as fun as the original. Well, there is no need to wonder any more. What a great game for children to play. Both of my children, ages 6 and 9, my husband and I all love to play this game. It has some strategy to it, and some luck is also involved. My children giggle as they slide their pawns across the board. What a great way to spend about 30 minutes with your children.

I have to admit that this Christmas has set my family up for many great nights and weekends of family game time. I have always enjoyed playing games, and enjoy them even more with the family. We shut the television off, turn the radio on and play games for hours. Hours of fun and giggles is had by all! I would highly recommend shutting the television off at least once a week and institute family game night to bring the family back together. Mix the games up each week, play some short ones, different versions of some, don’t let it get stale and everyone will be calling out for more games!
